Is It Time For Buju To Join A Record Label Like Mavins?

Worst case scenario, he wins the Next Rated award, spends a year or two more in the limelight before someone else comes along, and enjoys his low-key career until whenever.

But that’s obviously not the best Buju can become and definitely not what he’ll be looking to achieve. Not with the talent he has, not with the kind of consistency he’s putting in the game right now.

The guy deserves to go beyond what he’s currently achieving, become a menace on the international scene, release two or three solid albums in the next five years, and become a Hall of Famer. Anything below that, and he’d have sold himself short.

The truth though is that without a major label backing, it is almost impossible to achieve some heights in the music industry. That’s just the way it is.

If Wizkid didn’t have RCA, “Made in Lagos” would flop. If CKay wasn’t backed by Warner Music SA, “Love Nwantiti” would not be what it is today. Fireboy wouldn’t have a Billboard entry if he wasn’t a YBNL x Empire artist, and it goes on and on.

It is now evident that what BNXN needs is a major deal that’ll catapult him to heights that most of his peers have never even dreamed of.

Think of his debut EP, “Sorry I’m Late.” While the album was okay, none of the songs on it have become as big as “Feeling” or even “Bling” (songs that Buju was featured on) and that’s because the project was lacking direction for the most part.

With a record label in the picture, it means better projects and a better promotional budget. With that, the sky is the limit for Buju.

Anyway, I think BNXN should just consider a deal with a thriving local label like Mavins. Later on, he could gun for international deals.
